HubSpot – More Flexibility in Property Field Type Changes

What is it?

You can now change certain custom property field types even when they're in use on reports, views, or record pages. Specifically, you can:
  • Switch between single-line text and multi-line text
  • Switch between text (single or multi-line) and URL
  • Switch from single-select to multi-select

Why does it matter?

Previously, you could only change a property's field type if it wasn't in use, which made it harder to adjust your data model. Now, you can make these changes more flexibly—saving time and keeping your data setup aligned with your business needs. This update also makes it easier to take advantage of the newly launched URL property. If you have been storing URLs in text fields, you can convert those properties directly to URL properties for cleaner, validated data without rebuilding your setup.

How does it work?

To change custom property field types: Settings > Objects > Edit Property
  • If a property is in use, you can change it between the supported field types:
    • Single-line text ↔ Multi-line text
    • Single or multi-line text ↔ URL
    • Single-select → Multi-select
  • Multi-select to single-select changes are not supported as part of this release.
  • If a property is being used in a form or feedback survey, you won't be able to change its type.
  • When switching from text to URL, keep in mind that all future values for that property must be valid URLs. Any value that doesn't follow a URL format will no longer be accepted.
Note: This update applies only to custom properties.
